Jalebis!

The first day we were in Bombay, we took Eve, Shay and Arjun in an Autorickshaw to my favorite Jalebi place. These guys have been around forever and they make piping hot Jalebis to order.

What are Jalebis? This is a pretzel shaped dessert, made with flour, deep fried and then soaked in sugar syrup for less than a minute. They are crunchy and chewy all at the same time.

Tricia and I would walk to the Jalebi shop Sunday morning, but about half a pound, take it home along with some Samosas and Bhajjis and feast on it. Then we'd feel ill for the rest of the morning. We'd swear to control ourselves the next weekend. But the scene would repeat itself. Yes, it is just that good.

So, we bought about 2.5 lbs, just over a kilo! Pia, Vicky, my Dad, the kids and we polished all of it off.

Eve and Anupam fly in style

My dad is a Commander with Air India so I try of fly them as often as I can. We get upgraded. Eve was awesome on the flight and the stewardesses kept her eating through the entire journey, while she was awake of course. She slept the 10 hours, of the 16 hour flight. Passed out as soon as we leveled out. I worked for a bit, watched a couple of movies and tried to time my sleep to minimize jet lag.

Unfortunately, Tricia and Arjun could not join us on this flight because they used miles to buy their tickets from SFO-BOM. The flew United-Lufthansa.

Indian Grammar

Although a lot of Indians speak English for obvious reasons, Indianisms in English grammar is always funny. Here is the Air India signage from JFK.

Childrens? PAX? Really? I love it.

Waiting at JFK

Eve and I wait at JFK for our flight to Bombay. She's strapped to her carseat so she can't escape. Ah the joys of parenthood!
