365:: How To Make Happy Couples
It's been a year since we got married on that fateful day. A fun, eventful, exciting year. What have we done? Well, haven't you been reading our blog at all? :-)
We met with so many good friends this year. Made lots of new ones. Did some travelling...
So what is being married like? It's the feeling you get after a meal that has all your favourite recipies in it. A warm glow and a thankful that you could share it with someone appreciating each bite. Was that too gooey chocolatey for you? Fine! Throw in a good dark beer and it becomes more manly. :)
So what are some tips for an exciting and fun filled marriage? Am I qualified enough to make a stand here? Sure I am! We have been together since 2000, it's not a bed of roses, well... it is, but some thorns are thrown in too, for some spectacular special effects.
So, some fun (and cheap) stuff to do:
One: Go to one of those palmist guys who sit around stations and in the city, perhaps even an astologer, regardless of whether you believe that stuff or not. Do a combined forcast. If he's way off, you'll have a great laugh and have a great day after that, BUT if he does come uncannily close, you'll get that cool tingly feeling.
Two: When does one go for a date? Evenings? Nights? Too common, been done. I have taken Tricia for breakfast dates. Go to Juhu beach, grab a coconut, walk down the empty beach. Savour the smell and feel of a city that hasn't quite woken up. Sunday mornings are best. Another slightly more pricey option is go to one of those 5 star hotel breakfast buffets, cost you about Rs. 300 per head. But it's fun.
Three: Take a cheapie international holiday. Go to Sri Lanka. Take a train to Chennai and fly down. Go to Nepal, but avoid Nepal and stay at guesthouses or do a home/farmstay. Learn the language and the local food. Learn to cuss in that language, careful who you try to impress. Even Bangadesh is quite nice. If you want to stay within the country, head to a part of India most people you know have never been to. Go to Manipur or Meghalaya (I love the word Meghalaya, "The land of clouds", how cool is that). Want to know how to get there? Call me, I have tons of info.
Four: Do a portfolio (glam pictures). Look at all your pictures. How many of them have you looking like movie stars? You will have a fabulous time doing all the brain dead stuff and making fun of the photographer while at it.
Five: Guys: Learn to cook. Remember that old saying? "The way to a man's heart... yaddi... yadda..." Do the opposite. Learn to cook! Baby steps. Make breakfast. It's difficult to mess up scrambled eggs, toast and a simple milkshake. Next step, lunch! But that is a totally different story. Watch this space for more info. Learn to use reciepe books, I learned that way. :-)
Sex : A few words here. Accessorise. Brewskies in bed. Take charge. Stay fit. Dancing fingertips. Whipped cream. Chocolate syrup. Need I say more? Experiment ;-)
Seven : Do you want a pet? Go save a stray. You'll have tons of fun looking the cute little stray. The walks in the evening with your new friend will be a lot of fun. A few word of advice: Looking after another life is not easy. No beating, yelling or torturing. Call PETA if you cannot handle the stress.
Eight : Do something smutty together. The smuttiest thing I can think of in this city of ours is a "Dance Bar". We, unfortunatly haven't been to one yet. This is something that has become as much Bombay as the Vada-Pavs we eat. :-)
Nine : NEVER ever do this: The eye rolling. Why? This is a passive-agressive action. You are frustrated about something but don't want to talk to your partner/spouse about it.
Ten : One word. Candles. Candles? Yes, buddy candles. Girls love candles. I have learned that the hard way. I only used candles during power outtages. Before you loved one walks into your home, place candles strategically, all over the place. Use different kinds of candles. Tea lights in small decorative candles, floating candles in wine glasses, woks etc... tall candles in wine bottles, as well as wide coloured ones. Try these out and remember one thing...
...turn out the lights. :-)
