32nd Haight-Ashbury Street Fair

Last week we went to the Haight-Ashbury Street Fair. Usually we head off for date nights, but in this time we decided to head off by 2pm to the city. We've kind of turned into losers where we get tired and want to pass out by 11pm. I fight to stay awake to watch Stewart/Colbert. But enough of that.

Karen showed up at about 2pm and we headed off almost immediately. In 25 minutes we were in the city and parked right off of Castro & 15th, which gave us a bit of a walk to Haight, but it was a really nice day to walk.

The street had the usual buzzing tourists, students and wanna-be hippies, besides the residents who watched the pandemonium unfold from the safety and comfort of their balconies. We had a nice time walking around, looking at little craft shops, watching and smiling at the people toking on their pipes. The cops kept a watchful eye on the whole event.

There was even the ubiquitous "Show us your tits" sign on a window with a bunch of drunk 20 somethings armed with camera phones. And they also added the afterthought sign that read "Don't worry we're gay". No takers.

Tricia as a part of our move towards eating sustainable meat, avoided the mystery meat there and got a Pad Thai with tofu. She added a ton of chili sauce raising quite a few eyebrows. She's a lychee, white on the outside, but brown inside. And yes, she found sugarcane juice and drank a cup of that too. My favorite part of that, was that she handed the cup back to them and asked them to pull out all the ice and add more juice.

After the exhibits started closing down, we headed to Burlingame, where everything was closed. So we headed off to San Mateo for a drink at O'Neils and burgers at Jeffrey's.

A good day out. Here are some pictures.

Tricia getting hungry. As always.

She eats her pad thai with a heaping of chili sauce. And loves it.

We are about half way down the fair. Look at the number of people. It's awesome.

We grab a cuppa coffee at a small coffee house. Tricia checks out a green coupon book.
