Useless United Programmers

Yesterday I was in Chicago and my flight back here was scheduled for 8am, so I went to united.com to set up phone alerts. The weather out there has been very flaky and I wanted to make sure I got flight status. I get a message at 4:30am and I woke up thinking… uh oh, bad news.

I got the most useless message ever: "Your flight status has changed, called United on 1-800-bla-blah to speak to customer service representative". So I call the number, and after punching in my frequent flier number, I get this recording:

“Your flight from Chicago O'Hare to San Francisco International will depart at NULL and arrive at NULL. Press 0 to speak to an agent."... Yes, it read out NULL. I was laughing so hard that I think I scared the other guests in the hotel. And yes, when I spoke to a call center agent, my flight had been cancelled.
