Hydera-Driving avec VadaPau

Well... I have been here for over a month now and things don't too bad any more. Still would rather be in Bombay, but my contract has been extended by Infosys for another 5 weeks.

Last weekend I went to Bombay and we had a fabulous time. Friday night I went to Tricia's office again. The week before that, I had asked Ashu to send a dozen roses to her at work. She was pooped when I met her but very happy. I had taken the 4:30pm flight in instead of the 8:30pm flight. Spent the evening at Pia's playing with Shay. Happy puppy.

Saturday we went to Air India building quite early to pick up my tickets for the Bombay-Hyderabad sector, but the counter that issues the discounted tickets is closed Sat-Sun. So Tricia and I decided to walk up to Colaba and watch Troy. But before that we went to Leopold for tea and some excellent sandwiches.

People had said a lot about Troy to us and we aren't big "Pitt" fans. I like Eric Bana though. The fight sequences were spectacular, but Gladiator beats it any day of the week. Pitt was a little bit unconvincing as Achilles. All in all a visual feast.

We headed over to Pia's with goodies from Gaylord. Took a cab, and Tricia predictably slept all the way. Watched the Wimbledon women's final. Interesting. At night we headed off to Trafalgar Chowk, where the food was fantastic as always. We got a little drenched on the way back to our place.

Sunday I woke early and tried to wake Tricia too, but to no avail. Went to lunch at Pat's, whose chef had made Dhansak, a Parsi (Persian) dish made of spinach and chicken. Excellent stuff. I made Pat's son cry again. He is about 4 now.

Flew back to Hyderabad and bought some Vada-Pau for Naval and his family. Now a vada pau is uniquely Bombay. A small bun with a patty made of spiced mashed potato in batter in it. This is served with a coriander/cilantro sauce. They loved it.. :)

I just found out that Honey, who is Madhu's wife, is the family way. Madhu is Naval's bro. She is quite sick all the time, but I think a little bit of walking around and soem fresh air will help, but you never know till you walk a mile in her shoes.

I have always believed that our bodies are strong enough to cure itself. Just our minds a weak. Pia and I almost never use any medicines or drugs. We can be horribly sick but will not admit it to even ourselves and my theory has worked over 90% of the time.

Monday I decided to borrow Naval's car, since I like to into work a little early to check my mail. Between 9am to 7pm the internet is slower than dialup 5-6 years back... MUCH SLOWER. It takes about 5 minutes between each mail. Considering I am used to high speeds... this is horrible.

Back to Naval's car... I have been driving for 3 days now and I still think that these Hyderabadis cannot drive. Thankfully I can leave the city very easily from my hotel and the drive isn't too bad, about 18 kilometers. But all in all the car was a good idea. Thanks so much Rinku, Honey, Naval and Madhu.

Almost every weekday I head over to Naval's since I get a little bored watching TV in my room. There is a very good chance if I stay in my room or hang out with my other friends I will end up shit faced everyday, and that gets old easily.

I saw the Euro 2004 final in my room with Gaurav and Naval. Shocking! I was hoping the Czechs would do better. Oh well... this is the Greek year I guess, with the Soccer, Olympics and Troy :)

Vidhey, is Rinku & Naval's son, he is a cute little thing who has christened my pants quite a few times. He can contort his body in a hundred different ways to try to catch a glimpse of the TV. Got his shots yesterday. He is quite different from Shay. Skinnier, not easily amused etc and some ways he is very similar, good head control, started his baby talk, stares at me incessantly...

This weekend Tricia comes to Hyderabad to visit. We are working on a POA. Plus I am in the process of hiring someone to delegate some work to, in Hyderabad.

More when I have a few more minutes.

Comments:
Good read. I will Hyderabad someday to see if things are as funny as you say.
